Myth vs fact

Shareable corrections to the stories that won't die.

Each pair is written to be screenshot-friendly — a myth on one side, the textbook-backed fact on the other.

Myth

Scaling damages your teeth.

Fact

Scaling removes plaque and calculus that cannot be cleaned off by ordinary brushing. The instruments work on the deposits, not on healthy enamel. Any sensitivity afterwards is usually brief.

Oral Hygiene

Myth

If it doesn't hurt, nothing is wrong.

Fact

Cavities and early gum disease are often silent. Pain usually means the problem has already reached the nerve or deeper gum tissues. Check-ups catch issues while they are still small.

Tooth & Cavities

Myth

Whitening ruins your enamel.

Fact

Dentist-supervised whitening uses controlled peroxide concentrations and is considered safe for healthy teeth. Temporary sensitivity can happen. Unsupervised high-strength kits and abrasive DIY hacks are the risky ones.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Myth

Baby teeth don't matter because they fall out anyway.

Fact

Baby teeth hold space for adult teeth, help children chew and speak, and can get painful infections just like adult teeth. Decay in baby teeth is worth treating.

Children's Oral Health

Myth

You only need a dentist when something hurts.

Fact

Prevention is the quieter half of dentistry. Regular exams and cleanings stop most problems from becoming emergencies — and they are usually simpler and cheaper than waiting.
